September 8th 2025 – Birmingham, AL.
Kenny Schmied and co-driver Anthony Geraci traveled to Birmingham Alabama over the weekend for rounds 10 and 11 of the 2025 Pirelli GT4 America season.
The penultimate round of the Pirelli GT4 America Championship took place last weekend at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama. Unusually, the schedule featured three races instead of the customary two, with Friday’s running accommodating the rescheduled race from the previous round at Road America.
Anthony started Friday’s rescheduled race from P4 in the AM Class and quickly found himself in a four-car, nose-to-tail battle that lasted for most of his stint. He handed over to Kenny on lap 15 after completing the mandatory driver change, just as a full-course yellow was called to recover a car stopped on track—bunching the field together.
Once the pit cycle was complete, Kenny emerged in P3 and immediately moved up to P2 on the restart. Unfortunately, a small error sent the #72 across the gravel trap damaging the exhaust and forced an unscheduled pit stop on lap 23 for repairs.
Rejoining two laps down but still in P4, Kenny pushed hard and set personal best lap times, but with limited time remaining he was unable to close the gap, eventually taking the checkered flag in P4.
The first official race of the Barber weekend took place on Saturday, with Anthony starting from P4. Chaos unfolded on lap one when a spinning car in the midfield forced drivers to scatter, but Anthony emerged unscathed in P3. By lap 13, a puncture for the race leader promoted him to P2, though on the next lap he was nudged back to P3.
Anthony pitted on lap 15 for the driver change, handing the car over to Kenny, who rejoined in P3 and immediately began chasing down the second-place car. After a series of quick laps, Kenny overtook the #36 to move into P2 and started to pull away.
With just three minutes left, a stranded car brought out the full-course yellow, freezing the order as the race ended under caution. Following post-race inspections, the winning car was found to be in technical breach, promoting the #72 Rafa Racing Toyota of Schmied and Geraci to victory.
Kenny started Sunday’s Race 2 from P4 and wasted no time moving up to P3 by the end of the opening lap. Despite heavy pressure from behind, he held firm until the mandatory pit stop on lap 20. After the driver change, Anthony rejoined in P4 once the pit cycle was complete.
A full-course yellow on lap 23 bunched the field, and a chaotic restart on lap 27 reshuffled the order, dropping Anthony to P5. He fought hard to defend his position, briefly losing a spot on lap 31 before reclaiming P5 with a brilliant move on lap 36, where he would ultimately finish.
The result keeps Kenny Schmied and Anthony Geraci firmly in title contention, now sitting second in the championship, 10 points off the lead. The final two rounds of the Pirelli GT4 America championship and the title decider will be at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on October 18th and 19th.
